Lateolabrax japonicus, a role of the second intermediate host of Metagonimus yokogawai

Abstract
The metacercariae of Metagonimus yokogawai was isolated from the scale of Lateolabrax japonicus (this fishes lives in fresh water in its early days) caught in middle stream of Seomjin-river, in an area of the endemic foci of metagonimiasis.
All of the 8 L. japonicus caught in middle stream infected metacercariae. Out of 3 fishes was examined, number of metacercariae in a fish varied from 145 to 514, and the metacercarial density were 91. 1% in scale, 5. 5% in fin, and 3. 4% in muscle.
At the 4 weeks after infection in the dog by this metacercariae, adult worms (921 x 340¥ì) could be recovered (34.2%) from small intestine, and identified.
It could be said that L. japonicus is one of the main source of Metagonimus yokogawai infection, because L. japonicus along with Plecoglossus altivelis is greatly enjoyed and eaten raw conditions by the inhabitants of this area in fall season.
It was found that L. japonicus as well as P. altivelis (sweetfish) plays a role of the 2nd intermediate host of M. yokogawai in Korea.
